Materials harder than diamond

These substances can scratch diamond:

  • Some diamonds are harder than others.
  • Borazon
  • Cubic boron nitride
  • Ultrahard fullerite
  • Rhenium diboride
  • Aggregated diamond nanorods
  • A material called lonsdaleite (also called hexagonal diamond), confirmed to be 58% stronger than diamond and is the hardest material known to date.
  • Aggregated diamond nanorods, a material created using ultrahard fullerite (C60)
  • Wurtzite boron nitride
